Platform Decay Book by Martha Wells

When the family of its close human friend, Dr. Mensah, is kidnapped by the corrupt mega-corporation Barish-Estranza, the cynical security android Murderbot uncharacteristically volunteers for a rescue mission. The mission takes Murderbot to a massive, complex space station. To save the captives, it must face its absolute worst nightmare: spending extended, uncomfortable time cooperating with unfamiliar humans and children, forced to navigate awkward social dynamics instead of just watching its favorite media feeds.
