Pursuit of Jade (Zhu Yu ) by Tuan Zi Lai Xi 1

Historical romance and political military drama novel

English

The story centers on Fan Changyu, a resilient, sharp-witted young woman working as a butcher in Lin’an to survive and care for her chronically ill younger sister, Changning, after their parents are murdered by bandits. Due to local inheritance laws and scheming relatives trying to seize her family home, she faces eviction and destitution unless she takes a husband.
During a severe snowstorm, Changyu discovers a heavily wounded, bloodied man collapsed on the roadside. Taking pity on him, she brings him home to recover. The man calls himself Yan Zheng, but he is secretly Xie Zheng, the formidable Marquis of Wu'an and commander of the northern border army, who was ambushed while secretly investigating an old blood feud and palace conspiracy.
To solve their mutual dilemmas, they enter into a matrilocal marriage of convenience: Changyu gains a husband on paper to protect her household, while Xie Zheng gains a low-profile hideout in a butcher's home to recuperate, evade imperial assassins, and orchestrate his countermoves.
