The Fall Novel by Albert Camus

The Fall by Albert Camus is a philosophical novel set in Amsterdam, where the protagonist, Jean-Baptiste Clamence, a former successful lawyer, confesses his life story to an unnamed listener in a bar. Through his monologue, Clamence reveals his past, including his sense of superiority, his moral failings, and his eventual downfall. The novel explores themes of guilt, existentialism, and the human condition, examining the ways in which individuals deceive themselves and others. Camus delves into the idea of "the fall" as a metaphor for the loss of innocence and the confrontation with one's own moral shortcomings.
