The Plague — Albert Camus

*The Plague* (*La Peste*) by Albert Camus is an existential novel set in the fictional French-Algerian town of Oran, which is struck by a deadly outbreak of bubonic plague. The story follows a group of characters, including Dr. Bernard Rieux, who struggle to cope with the epidemic and its impact on their lives. As the plague spreads, the novel explores themes of human suffering, isolation, the absurdity of life, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of an indifferent universe. Through the characters' experiences, Camus reflects on the nature of existence, the randomness of suffering, and the search for meaning in a world without inherent purpose.
